President Rodrigo Duterte discouraged anew his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio from running as president in the 2022 national elections.
Interviewed by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy which was aired over SMNI network, Duterte said that he already told his daughter not to commit the mistake of gunning for the country’s highest elective position.
“Si Inday, kagabi man ako dumating, si Inday, kinausap ko talaga kagabi. Do not run. Do not ever-ever commit the mistake of running for the presidency. I do not mean to insult the Filipino people. Presidente, wala ka talagang makuha. Wala para sa iyo. Except for one thing. Yung sense of fulfillment mo sa kapwa tao mo na may nagawa ka. Aside from that, it’s empty,” Duterte said.
“Unless magtakbo ka ng Presidente tapos mangurakot ka, you will become a billionaire or millionaire, whichever you want. Pero is that the life that you want? Sobra-sobra na pera, anuhin mo man ‘yan?” he added.
He also said that Sara Duterte will only receive extreme backlash which he does not want for his daughter to experience.
“You do not deserve it. Anak kita, maawa ako sa iyo. At alam ko naman hindi ka magpunta ng kalokohan. Sabihin ko sayo ngayon, ‘wag kang tumakbo. Sinabi ko talaga sa kanya. Kagabi ‘yun. Sinabi ko ‘wag kang tumakbo,” he said.
The Duterte-Duterte tandem has surfaced anew after the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-LABAN) adopted a resolution seeking for President Rodrigo Duterte’s vice presidential run in the 2022 polls.
Meanwhile, during a television interview, Albay Representative Joey Salceda said that Mayor Duterte will run as president next year and the latter is “going through the process of building alliances.”
But, last January, the chief executive reiterated that Sara Duterte will not run for president as he claimed that the position was no job for women.
