Former House speaker and Taguig-Pateros Representative, Alan Peter Cayetano, on Monday expressed his interest to run for president in the 2022 national elections to address cockfighting betting (e-sabong) and online casinos (e-casinos).
In a statement, Cayetano identified online cockfighting and online casinos as issues that failed to be considered by other potential candidates who are vocal in certain topics.
“Parang wala akong naririnig samantalang ito can really create a generation of zombies na panay sugal na lang imbes na trabaho. Sa diwang 'yun, I’m really considering running for president,” Cayetano said.
According to Cayetano, the public needs a “faith-based and values-oriented choice” in next year’s polls.
“In the same way na nagbigay ang Lord ng choice, I think people have to have a choice. Kailangan may kandidato na Christ-centered at Bible-based ang pamamaraan ng pagpapatakbo ng gobyerno,” he stated.
Cayetano, who is yet to release his final plans in next year’s poll, said it is still up for the Filipino people to decide on what they would want him to do in 2022 and the following years.
“I’m just asking our kababayans for prayers, kayo naman siguro mas nakakaalam kung anong role ang gusto niyong gawin ng isang Alan Peter Cayetano in 2022 and beyond, at kung anong will ng Panginoon,” the lawmaker added.
Just October last year, Cayetano was ousted as Speaker of the House of Representatives following the term-sharing agreement between him and now Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.
Cayetano also served as President Rodrigo Duterte’s running mate in the 2016 elections.
