Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and former Marikina solon Miro Quimbo have officially joined the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.

They were welcomed by Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president and House of Representatives Speaker during their oath-taking ceremony, held at the Batasang Pambansa complex on August 6.

Romualdez expressed optimism about Quimbo and Lacuna’s impact on the party’s mission.

"We are honored to welcome Mayor Honey Lacuna and former Marikina Congressman Miro Quimbo into the Lakas-CMD family," Romualdez stated.

He emphasized that their experience will bolster the administration’s “Agenda for Prosperity” and support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision of “Bagong Pilipinas.”

Quimbo, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, previously represented Marikina’s 2nd district, a post now being held by his wife, Stella Quimbo.

Rumors are circulating about a potential electoral clash in Marikina between the Quimbo and the Teodoro dynasties, with current Marikina Mayor Marcelino “Gibo” Teodoro approaching the end of his term while his wife, Rep. Marjorie Ann Teodoro is midway through.

In Manila, Lacuna’s political future remains a point of speculation.

Lacuna, who succeeded former Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso after his 2022 presidential bid, hinted at seeking reelection in 2025, stirring anticipation of a potential face-off.

In his Facebook account, Moreno posted a video of a public outcry for his return, which he captioned with “Laging may awa ang Diyos #TimeWillTell.”

This prompted Lacuna to respond in a statement that she would give him time to reconsider his plans.

“I am giving my dear brother, former Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, time to reconsider his plans. He still has time to reflect on his decision. As his Ate in public service, I am here to guide him,” Lacuna said.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo and members of the Manila City Council, alongside Manila Representatives Irwin Tieng, Joel Chua, Edward Maceda, Rolando Valeriano, and Bienvenido Abante.

Prominent Lakas-CMD officials, such as Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Deputy Speaker David Suarez, and Agusan Del Norte Rep. Jose Aquino, were also present to witness the event.
