In his speech, Angara expressed his commitment to “make the Philippines a digital literate country” under his leadership.
Deped aims to incorporate the coding language to the Deped curriculum starting from the local education system to improve the quality of education in the country.
They signed with global movement iamtheCODE last month aiming to provide coding skills to learners.
The education bureau has been eyeing to add coding to the curriculum in the Philippine education system as early as 2018.
Angara believes that Filipinos are quick learners and with millions of students graduating from basic and tertiary education, the Philippines is already a keyplayer in the global workforce.
“Incorporating coding will allow teachers to focus more on teaching than administrative work”, said Angara.
He added that his desire for the Philippines set Singapore as an example for success in teaching coding to students.
Under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ‘s term, they are hoping to achieve their goal of producing innovative learners who will create a significant development to the country.
Angara emphasized Marcos’ goal to enhance education by integrating technology into the curriculum, preparing Filipino students for a changing global economy.
