Shaping the Future of Science, STEM EXPO Reignites Innovation!
After a 4-year-long hiatus, STEM EXPO is back to provide platforms for high school students to show their excellence and skills in the field of science, and technology. STEM EXPO or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Expo is a two-day event organized by the Philippine Society of Youth Science Club or PSYSC as part of their celebration for the National Science Club Month. With the theme, “Rebooting Filipino Innovation, Reinventing the Next Generation”, the PSYSC aims to provide a platform for young scientists to feature their research and innovations that solves not only the current issue of our society, but also the future development of our nation.
Committed to the organization’s thrust which is the public understanding of science, technology, and environment (PUSTE), this event will have various competitions that showcases the creativity and intelligence of our young innovators. This year, STEM EXPO is set to take place in Metro Manila with 6 standing sub-events: (1) STEMposium is an open conference series on science research practice and technological innovations and this year is focused on Filipino Innovation supported by talks: On Science Education, On Medical Research, On Transportation and System, On Business and Work, and On Policy and Community Development, (2) iGen: Innovations is a major sub-event competition that features a diverse array of innovation projects/products developed by senior high school students with a goal to address the nation’s current issues and emerging challenges, (3) Ideathon is a 24-hour-long competition that will be done in teams. The teams are expected to create and develop solutions utilizing the resources, knowledge, and technology they have to address a given problem that is currently relevant to our country, (4) ResearchCon is a nationwide research fair and competition for senior high school students that offers an avenue for them to showcase their projects and research studies to both their peers and to the public. Our newest sub-event is the (5) Science Short Film Festival, where science meets the world of film. This festival is an amateur filmmaking competition with the primary goal of promoting PSYSC’s thrust: public understanding of science, technology, and the environment (PUSTE) through filmmaking. This serves as a platform to showcase the hidden creativity of the students while artistically advocating the organization’s thrust and theme for this year. Lastly, the (6) Science Journalism Competition is a nationwide press conference that is focused on breakthroughs and discoveries in the field of science and technology. It comprises four categories which are News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, and Editorial Cartooning.
