The ‘Big 4’ refers to the top 4 universities in the Philippines, consisting of ADMU, De La Salle University (DLSU), University of the Philippines (UP), and University of Santo Tomas (UST).
UP ranked second among the Philippine universities placing in the 1201-1500 bracket while DLSU and UST are tied for third and fourth by settling in the 1501+ category.
Compared to last year’s ranking, the Philippines performed better as 6 local universities placed, unlike its past 5. Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU) debuted in the 1501+ bracket.
Engineering and Technological school Mapúa University is seen in the 1501+ bracket as well.
“Rankings like these do not fully define what Ateneo stands for; they are merely tools for benchmarking and continual improvement as an institution,” University President Fr. Roberto Yap said.
He also added that their goal is to educate and inspire service to others, rooted in Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit values.
According to THE World University Rankings website, they have ranked over 2,092 schools from 115 countries and territories, United Kingdom’s Oxford maintains its top spot for its ninth consecutive year, since 2016.
