Creating concoctions from Jollibee’s food menu can be an overwhelming decision-making process for the indecisive—a seemingly endless hunt for the best combination. However, maybe with the never-ending customer lining up to delight their craving taste buds, it would leave some more room to consider other choices and therefore land on the best one.

Jollibee has been a prominent food corporation in the Philippines since 1978. It was founded by Dr. Tony Tan Caktiong with the assistance of his family members, especially his wife Grace in 1975. The food menu of Jollibee started from a limited variety of ice creams sold in the streets of Manila. However, as time went by, the family business upgraded from frozen desserts to hot meals and other varieties of food famous to Filipinos.

Today, the fast food chain serves not only the Filipino community but also a global audience with its diverse and affordable offerings, including the popular Mix and Match Combos.

Mix and Match no more?

A recent announcement on Jollibee's official Facebook page confirmed that the Mix and Match offer will only be available until the end of October 2024. This news has left many Filipinos shocked and disappointed, with circulating posts on social media claiming that the offer might return next year—though this has not been officially confirmed by Jollibee.

This led to an overwhelmingly emotional feedback, with students and budget-conscious individuals lamenting the end of the Mix and Match option, which allowed them to enjoy meals without breaking the bank.

“Nagluluksa din kami para sa pagkawala ng Mix & Match”, “Hindi pa kami natutuloy sa pagkain sa jollibee na [mga] magkakaklase nawala na agad yung mix and match”, “Humabol ang Mix n’ Match…sabi permanent na…wala talagang forever,” as netizens continue to overflow Jollibee’s Facebook post with their sentiments regarding the stop of offer for Mix and Match.

Perfect match for students’ allowance

Jollibee started offering their Mix and Match Combos for 2024 on January 1, providing a wide-range of food combinations coming from their menu but at a more affordable price starting at Php 75.

The Mix and Match Combo offers a customizable meal consisting of six main menu items: Burger Steak, Yumburger, Jolly Spaghetti, Jolly Hotdog, Cheesy Yumburger, and a Crunchy Chicken Sandwich. While the six sides comprise their famous Soda Float, Pineapple Juice, Jolly Crispy Fries, Peach Mango Pie, Choco Sundae, and an Iced Latte. With this many choices, the total possible combination for Mix and Match sums up to 36. Even if the deal is limited to 36 combinations, Mix and Match guarantees a lifeline, particularly for students who are having difficulty meeting their financial needs.

For students who work with their tight allowance, the Mix and Match Combos eliminate the hassle of choosing between cheaper alternatives and higher-quality meals, offering both affordability and satisfaction in one place.

The joy of choices

With the Mix and Match Combos, Jollibee stays true to one of their taglines: “Bida ang Saya.”

This offering was more than just a marketing strategy; it became a financial lifeline for many customers seeking delicious meals at reduced prices. Jollibee Mix and Match Combos bridges the stratification between customers who can and cannot afford certain food menus.

Along with that, customers are given the choice to choose among these best-tasting items that are available at a reduced cost, which not only pleases their palates but also their wallets. At the same time, they could experience the joy of finding a combo that would best suit what their taste buds are looking for.

A destination, not a mere fast food chain

As inflation continues to impact food prices, many are forced to reconsider their dining options, making fast-food chains less appealing for quick satisfaction.

However, Jollibee stands out by providing exceptional value to its customers, prioritizing both quality and affordability. With wide-range of choices which not all fast-food restaurants can offer, these customizable combos might ensure the sustained spot of Jollibee as a staple destination for Filipinos, not just a mere fast food chain.

Yet, as the beloved Mix and Match Combos fade into memory, customers must face another goodbye. With the announcement that Jollibee is pulling the plug on this cherished offering, many will undoubtedly feel the void left behind, marking the end of an era in their dining tradition.
