DepEd denies rumors on removal of SHS, warns public vs fake news 

The Department of Education (DepEd) moved to dispel online speculations about Grades 11 and 12 being turned down beginning School Year 2026–2027, causing the growing anxiety among students and parents over supposed changes in the basic education system.

After posts circulated on social media alleging the abolition of the senior high school, the department made clarification through an issue of a public warning against the spread of false information.

DepEd stressed in the statement posted on its official Facebook page on Jan. 4, such reports claiming the removal of Grades 11 and 12 are fake and not anchored on any approved policy or department memorandum issuance.

“Mga Ka-DepEd, fake news ang kumakalat na post sa social media tungkol sa umano’y pagtanggal ng Grade 11 at Grade 12 para sa School Year 2026–2027,” the department emphasized in the said statement.

DepEd noted the misinformation can mislead Filipino families and can cause unnecessary confusion among learners.

“Muling pinaaalalahanan ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang publiko na maging mapanuri sa mga impormasyong nakikita online,” warned against misinformation, urging users not to follow pages that repeatedly share unverified claims and to report posts that propagate false information.

It further reminded all official statements were announced and released through the official DepEd Philippines social media accounts and formal communication channels.

“Para sa tama at opisyal na anunsiyo tungkol sa basic education, sumangguni lamang sa official DepEd Philippines social media accounts,” the department highlighted in the said statement.
