DBM pushes transparency with Project DIME for flood control

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is urging the public to take part in monitoring government flood control projects through its newly relaunched Project Digital Information for Monitoring and Evaluation (DIME) platform.

During the launch at the Tripa de Gallina Pumping Station on August 27, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman reminded officials that government funds must reach the people as quickly as possible.

“President Bongbong Marcos has repeatedly reminded us that whatever we fund must reach our people at the soonest possible time,” she said.

The DBM emphasized that the upgraded system will also help local governments and communities better prepare for disasters by ensuring timely project completion.

The department expressed hope that citizen participation in reporting and providing feedback will foster a stronger culture of accountability.

Project DIME was first introduced in 2018 but was given a new mandate under Executive Order No. 31 in 2023.

It uses satellites, drones, and geotagging to provide verifiable data on the progress of major flood control projects.

Citizens can monitor developments and submit comments and feedback on these projects online.

The system aims to address recent concerns in Bulacan over delayed implementation, ghost projects, and transparency issues in flood control projects.
