
Seasoned cuber Karl Abarquez proved true to his experience after grabbing multiple first-place finishes during the Marikina City ReMINX II 2025 held at the Marikina Greenheights Phase 3 Covered Court, Dec. 7.
The Marikina City swing, an official part of the World Cube Association (WCA) circuit and Philippine Cubers Association-recognized tournament, staged 38 participants, including native solvers and foreign contenders.
Rubik’s Clock Asian record holder, Abarquez, flexed his mastery in the field as he recorded a 4.31-second average in the category, enough to clinch him the top podium.
He gapped Javier Ignacio, who backstopped in second with a 5.49-second average, while Psyron Eubert Catral rounded up the clock’s podium after tallying a 5.89-second finish.
The eighth grader from De La Salle City-Lipa also rebounded from his recent fifth-place finish at the 3x3x3 event in Antipolo, clocking in an 8.85-second average to mark his new personal record, marking a significant improvement compared to his 9.61-second finish just a week after.
Karl bested Kat Gonzalez, who finished second, and third placer Juan Miguel Y. Magallanes in a tight 3×3 cube podium finish as they logged in 9.08-second and 9.15-second averages, respectively.
Wasting no time, the Batangas native followed through on his recent National Record outing in the Skewb category at Antipolo, ticking in a 3.06-second average to lord over the class once again.
Ignacio paced behind at second with a 3.24-second average, while Ivan Keith Cariaga completed the Skewb awardees with a 3.29-second average.
Abarquez also displayed versatility after placing third with a 56.51-second average in the Megaminx bracket behind first-placer Catral with a sub-54-second average and WCA delegate Yuji Yoshida, who clinched second with a 55.46-second average.
