
Behind an estimated total of 1,600 contingents sent to Thailand, the Philippines recorded a 95-medal tally, composed of 17 golds, 31 silvers, and 68 bronzes, during week one of the 33rd SEA Games held in Thailand, Dec. 14.
PH Jin Justin Kobe Macario kickstarted the record-breaking country-delegation count in tournament history after scoring the country’s first gold medal during the freestyle poomsae event on Dec. 10.
While Olympic swimmer Kayla Sanchez delivered two individual gold medals after teaming up with fellow representatives Xiandi Chua, Chloe Isleta, and Heather White for the Women’s 4×100 Freestyle Relay to clinch another top podium finish for the country.

Meanwhile, the host country Thailand leads the charts with 257 medals (132 golds, 78 silvers, 47 bronze), while Indonesia paces at second with 150 medals (42 golds, 56 silvers, 52 bronze) and Vietnam at third with 134 medals (34 golds, 34 silvers, 66 bronze) to complete the podium in the first week of the regional meet.
The Philippines will look to await the results for the remaining six days before the closing on Dec. 20 of the tournament as it eyes either replicating or surpassing its recent fifth-place finish during the 2023 edition of the tilt held in Cambodia, where they recorded 260 medals (58 gold, 86 silver, 116 bronze).
