Marcos to PSA on processing documents: Make it more efficient

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to make the process for civil registry documents faster and easier, especially when correcting information on birth certificates.

“Kaya PSA, padaliin n’yo na, pabilisin n’yo na,” Marcos said in his vlog “BBM Vlog 278: Sagot sa Polisiya,” emphasizing that obtaining a single document should not involve long and complicated procedures as the government pushes for digitalization.

Marcos also said correcting birth certificates should be a basic service that people no longer have to worry about, noting that the current process can still take hours just for someone to secure a single document.

He added that even applicants for birth registration are also required to return to the province where they were born, which makes the process more time-consuming and expensive.

The directive was issued as the administration broadened the use of the government’s digital platform, eGov PH, which serves as a one-stop mobile hub for transactions with various state agencies.

The President also cited PSA’s recently launched e-Certificate service, which allows Filipinos to request digital copies of birth, marriage, and other civil registry documents online. 

He said the service should eventually be available in all PSA offices and that requests for physical copies should also be processed at any branch to make access more convenient.

However, Marcos noted that some transactions may still require in-person verification to prevent fraudulent registrations, referring to the case of Alice Guo.

He added that programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), such as the Pag-Abot ID for street dwellers and initiatives that bring PSA services to DSWD payout sites, aim to help marginalized sectors secure civil registry documents and identification.

The President encouraged all Filipinos to make use of the government’s expanded digital services to benefit from greater convenience.
