Amid growing concerns about school security, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced plans for the nationwide adoption of a technology-driven alert system to strengthen coordination and enable faster emergency response.

The “Build Partnership. Early Detection. Swift Alert. Tactical Response” (B.E.S.T.) School Alert and Rapid Response System was developed by the Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) to support immediate reporting, information sharing, and action during emergencies and security incidents in schools.

This is aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., under the guidance of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to enhance public safety measures, strengthen disaster and emergency preparedness, and ensure a secure and conducive learning environment.

The tool is currently under a pilot program, with 155 schools expected to utilize the system as part of an organized alert and response mechanism.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that the agency would coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to further develop the platform if implemented nationwide.

“We have skilled police experts, and we are also equipped with advanced technology that can help us elevate our emergency response techniques,” Nartatez Jr. said.

He added that law enforcement agencies should continue to adapt to evolving threats by maximizing the available tools and resources.

“The best practices of one police unit can actually bring the needed improvement in our system to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for our children,” he said.

The proposal came after the recent shooting at Banga National High School on September 18 that killed three minors,  raising concerns over school security.
