QC, UP push PGH Diliman project to expand public healthcare

‎In a bid to ease hospital congestion and improve access to public healthcare, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and officials from the University of the Philippines (UP) met to push forward the proposed Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Diliman project.

‎The meeting focused on updates on the project, including possible areas of collaboration, land use, infrastructure requirements, and the integration of healthcare services.

‎“Tinalakay sa meeting ang mga plano at posibleng kolaborasyon upang maisulong ang proyektong magpapalawak ng access sa de-kalidad at abot-kayang serbisyong pangkalusugan para sa mas maraming Pilipino,” the Quezon City Government said in a Facebook post.

‎The proposed hospital is expected to complement existing public health institutions and help decongest major facilities by bringing specialized services closer to residents in Quezon City and nearby areas.

‎Plans for the project were endorsed to the UP Investment Coordination Committee in 2022 for elevation to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board.

‎Approval from the NEDA Board will allow the project to proceed to bidding under a public-private partnership scheme.

‎The planned facility will be built on a 4.2-hectare site within the UP Diliman campus and is designed to accommodate 700 beds.

‎It is expected to expand the services of Philippine General Hospital in Manila, which currently serves over 60,000 patients annually.
