Nitura, Cantada lead UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball honors; Ybañez claims 3rd MVP title in men’s division 

Shaina Nitura is on track to be named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, becoming the first player in Adamson Lady Falcons history to win the league’s top individual award.

The 21-year-old outside hitter led the league in scoring for the second consecutive season with 284 points built on 248 attacks, 24 blocks and 12 aces.

Meanwhile, Sam Cantada is set to be named Rookie of the Year after finishing sixth overall in statistical points with 66.786 for the NU Lady Bulldogs.

She ranked second in aces with a 0.41 average per set and seventh in spiking with a 35.36 percent success rate.

In the men’s division, Josh Ybañez of the UST Golden Spikers is set to reclaim the MVP award, securing his third career MVP.

Ybañez led the league with 90.192 statistical points, becoming the first University of Santo Tomas player in the men’s volleyball tournament to win three MVP awards.

The 23-year-old outside hitter ranked fourth in spiking with a 45.19 percent success rate, second in aces with 0.35 per set, and second in receptions with a 65.68 percent efficiency.

He also finished as the league’s second-leading scorer with 278 points built on 244 spikes, 16 blocks and 18 aces.

Ybañez is also set to claim his third Best Outside Spiker award after tallying 329 ranking points.
