FALSE:  Sen. Erwin Tulfo claims demolition plot over rumored 2028 presidential bid

A statement circulating on the internet claims that Sen. Erwin Tulfo is being subjected to political attacks amid discussions of a possible presidential candidacy. 

CLAIM: 

The post claims that certain individuals are attempting to destroy Senator Erwin Tulfo’s reputation because he is allegedly the people’s preferred choice to run for president against VP Sara.

RATING: FALSE

CONCLUSION:

There is no official statement from Tulfo stating that he is being attacked for allegedly being urged by the public to run against VP Sara in the 2028 presidential election.

THE FACTS:

• Despite his high ranking in surveys, Tulfo denied rumors that he will run for Vice President in the 2028 elections, following suggestions of a possible tandem with former Vice President Leni Robredo, dubbed the “Leni-Erwin” tandem. 
• He clarified that he has no plans to enter national executive positions and intends to remain in the Senate, where he is satisfied with crafting legislation alongside his brother, Senator Raffy Tulfo.
• He also appealed to the public and survey groups not to include his name in future national election surveys.
