A claim circulating on social media alleges that Atty. Chel Diokno stated that every project undertaken during the Duterte administration was inherited from the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.

CLAIM:

The post claims that the “No Smoking” policy and extrajudicial killings (EJK) are the only achievements of the Duterte administration, while all other projects were from the Aquino administration.

RATING: FALSE

CONCLUSION:

There is no official statement from Diokno stating that all the projects and policies implemented during the Duterte administration came from the Aquino administration, or that the “No Smoking” policy and EJK are the only achievements of the Duterte administration.

THE FACTS:

  • During Diokno’s “Fast Talk” segment in ABS-CBN’s Harapan 2019: The Senatorial Town Hall Debate on February 17, 2019, he answered “No Smoking Policy” when asked by Alvin Elchico if there was any significant project or policy established by the Duterte administration.
  • Diokno did not state that all the projects established under the Duterte administration came from former President Benigno Aquino III.
  • He also did not say that the “No Smoking” policy and EJK were the only achievements of the Duterte administration.

BOTTOMLINE:

Atty. Chel Diokno acknowledged the “No Smoking” policy as a significant Duterte administration policy during the 2019 debate. However, there is no official record showing that he made the statement attributed to him in the viral post.
