Duterte OKs limited face-to-face classes in 120 public, private schools

120 public and private schools will be launching limited face-to-face classes soon after President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the implementation, Malacañang announced on Monday.

In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the current education status is not just an issue of education but also an issue of mental health.

“Ito po ay hindi lamang issue ng edukasyon, ito rin po ay issue ng mental health at ekonomiya,” Roque said.

The spokesperson added that face-to-face classes will be held every other week with a half-day schedule. 

The pilot run for face-to-face classes will include 12 students from kindergarten, 16 students from grades 1-2, and 20 students from technical vocational students in senior high school.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that the limited classes will be monitored for two months and students that will be attending shall have a written letter of consent from parents.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is yet to release the date of the pilot run, as well as the list of participating schools in the launch.
