Alas Women earn first win in Leg 1, escape Indonesia to bag bronze in SEA V. League

Alas Pilipinas Women wrapped up their campaign in the first leg of the 2025 SEA V. League with a strong finish, defeating Indonesia in four sets to clinch the bronze medal in the four-nation tournament held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on August 3.

Despite falling short in the third set, the national team ensured they got the job done by closing out the match in the fourth set, securing a 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13 victory.

Angel Canino led the charge for Alas Pilipinas, tallying 17 points and later earning the Best Outside Spiker award.

Learning from their defeats against Thailand and Vietnam in their first two games, Alas took control in the first two sets with their precise net defense.

However, Indonesia had no plans of giving them an easy match, as their opponents established a commanding 16-9 lead in the third set.

The Philippines continued to struggle in that frame until Indonesia capitalized, closing the set behind Adelea Ajeng’s back-to-back hits.

In the fourth set, Alas regained their momentum with a dominant 15-4 run and eventually closed out the game as Canino delivered the medal-sealing back-row hit.

Allysa Solomon also made a big contribution to the national team with 17 points, while Bella Belen added 12 points.

Indonesia, on the other hand, was led by Ersandrina Devega and Ajeng with 22 and 21 points, respectively.

With the win, the Philippines secured their third straight bronze medal in the tournament and will compete for Leg 2 this August 8-10, 2025.
