Three years ago in Tokyo, the Philippines had its first taste of Olympic gold since 1924.

But on its 100th anniversary, Carlos Yulo rewrote history by raising the bar, clinching not one but two gold medals along the way.

After falling short of a podium finish in Tokyo, the Golden Boy completed his redemption arc in the 2024 Paris Olympics after snagging the gold in men's vault finals on Sunday at the Bercy Arena.

The 24-year-old Filipino standout became the Philippines’ first double Olympic gold medalist, averaging 15.116 points to seal the deal and ignite a nationwide celebration for the second consecutive night.

Fueled by his golden performance in floor exercise yesterday, the pride of Malate, Manila turned on his engines early before flaunting a handspring double front half out piked for a 15.433 in his first vault.

Yulo, then, sustained his momentum, as he blasted away with a Kasamatsu double twist to register a 14.800 showing and establish a decisive margin over other gymnasts.

Meanwhile, former world champion and Tokyo silver medalist Artur Davtyan was the last to perform and the sole contender who could surpass Yulo, executing two precise vaults.

However, the Armenian mainstay fell short after finishing with 14.966 average points, settling for the silver in the process.

The British stalwart Harry Hepworth then followed suit to complete the podium after unleashing a 14.949 performance.

With Pinay boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas already securing a medal, the Philippines is set to return with its most glittering Olympic haul to date.
