US, Canada to co-host 2027 women’s volleyball worlds; Qatar lands 2029 men’s event

Volleyball’s global stage is set for a groundbreaking run as the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) confirmed that the 2027 Women’s World Championship will debut in North America, while Qatar opens its doors to the 2029 men’s edition, Sept. 27.

For the women’s tournament, the United States and Canada will co-host, each staging matches in two cities during the 32-team preliminary round. The final eight squads will clash at Honda Center and OCVIBE in Anaheim, California.

It marks the first time the flagship event will be organized on North American soil.

Meanwhile, Doha, Qatar, will be the central hub for the 2029 Men’s championship, securing the country’s first historic milestone in the championship’s history, while Poland will host the 2027 edition.

Qatar most recently hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup, demonstrating its capability to welcome the world.

Although specific dates have yet to be announced, both North America and Qatar boast impressive credentials in staging major sporting spectacles.

“Taking the World Championships to new regions is an important step in growing our sport and sharing its values of collaboration, integration, peace, and solidarity more widely across the globe.” said FIVB president Fabio Azevedo.

Volleyball World CEO Ugo Valensi added that the move “will open the door to fresh partnerships, investment and fan engagement, while driving innovation and long-term value for the sport.”

With North America preparing for its first women’s world championship, and Qatar stepping onto the men’s stage soon after, the FIVB’s long-term calendar marks a deliberate push to widen volleyball’s reach and legacy across continents.
