Philippines to host 2029 women’s volleyball worlds after staging 2025 men’s championship

Building on the success of the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, the Philippines has been chosen to host the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, the International Volleyball Federation announced on Sept. 28.

FIVB president Fabio Azevedo made the announcement alongside Brazilian volleyball legend Leila Barros before the men’s final in Manila.

It will be the first time the women’s event is held in the Philippines, underscoring the nation’s growing status as a global volleyball hub.

Azevedo said the 2029 tournament will showcase volleyball’s inclusivity and its power to bring people together.

Volleyball World CEO Ugo Valensi also praised the Philippines with their proven hospitality and organizational skills, calling the country an ideal stage to inspire the next generation of fans and athletes.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio described the award as a “historic blueprint” for national sports development and a boost to tourism and the economy.

The 32-team tournament will feature 64 matches over 17 days. The announcement follows news that the 2027 women’s championship will be co-hosted by the United States and Canada, while Qatar will stage the 2029 men’s edition.
