The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced on its official Facebook page that tennis sensation Alex Eala and volleyball standout Bryan Bagunas will carry the Philippine flag during the opening ceremonies of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, Dec. 3.

Eala, currently ranked 50th in the WTA standings, has steadily risen as one of the country’s brightest international tennis stars and a key medal contender in the upcoming Games.

Bagunas, fresh from a standout performance with the men’s volleyball team at the FIVB World Championships in Manila, brings experience and leadership to the delegation’s flag-bearing duties.

Reportedly, the Philippines’ contingent is composed of nearly 1,200 athletes and officials, representing the nation across a wide range of sports at the regional multi-sport event.

The selection of Eala and Bagunas as flag bearers highlights the POC’s intent to recognize both rising talent and seasoned performers heading into the competition.

The opening ceremonies are scheduled in Bangkok on Dec. 9, where the flag-bearers will lead the delegation in a parade of athletes and officials from participating Southeast Asian nations.
