Even if I lose, I’ll write

Written by Nicole

December 16, 2024 it was my first time competing for my category which is Column Writing English in secondary. I didn’t really expect myself to clutch an award since I was fully aware that my competitors were already in senior high and were really experienced.

The night before MSPC, I didn’t read any of my articles nor read the latest news because in my head..I already knew that I wouldn’t be able to qualify for DSPC like I always did back in elementary, of course everything has changed now and will continue to change. I walked myself to the venue while listening to music, my mind was blank, my face was blank, I was just letting the cold air hit my face while vibing to music.

Fast Forward, I was now lined up along with my competitors..and I was so scared, I noticed almost all of them was already in senior high school..and I was probably the only grade 7 there. As soon as we arrived at the competing room and fact sheets were now already being handed out..I felt insecure and nervous because I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to write anything on my paper.

One look at the fact sheet and I was flabbergasted, it was a topic that I really liked, my mind now full of thoughts that I can possibly put on my final output. I wrote without having the need to write a draft paper, I was just letting myself write anything without being sure about if what I was writing was correct, because I really didn’t care if I lose this competition..after all I’m just a 7th grader..barely having the knowledge how the criteria works for judging in Secondary.

But one thing is clear for me..even if I lose or win this contest, what matters to me the most is that I shared my opinion and sharing your opinion on an issue that can have a big impact nationally and economically coming from your heart is already a win.

After writing my article I was the first one to pass my paper, even if I wasn’t confident with what I wrote. After a few hours, results for my category are now being announced, I was with my friends..they were listening intently while on the other hand, I was using my phone because again..I didn’t expect myself to get an award or qualify for DSPC. I was suprised when my publication was announced as 2nd Place..I was happy and proud..Representing my division is something I never expected, but I will always be proud to carry this responsibility. Win or lose, the experience is already worth it.
