Nestlé Philippines addresses FDA advisory on recalled infant products

Issued by Nestlé Philippines, a manufacturer of food and beverage products, regarding the FDA’s advisory on reported symptoms involving voluntarily recalled batches of NAN OPTIPRO and NANKID OPTIPRO infant formula products on Jan.18, highlighting precautionary and post-market monitoring.

The voluntary recall involved raw material from the manufacturer after it found “very low levels of a substance in an ingredient from a global supplier.”

“In the absence of defined safety and regulatory limits, we acted on scientific recommendations to avoid exposure and to prioritize the well-being of infants and children making the decision to recall in favor of strict safety measures,” the food manufacturer said.

The FDA is currently conducting an ongoing investigation to identify the scope of the issue and to assess any potential safety implications.

In a statement, the FDA indicated that as of Jan. 15, 2026, it received 25 reports associated with the recalled products.

“Eighteen of these reports involve health concerns observed by parents or caregivers following consumption of the subject infant formula,” the agency said.

In close coordination with the manufacturer, the FDA is verifying the specific affected batches, ensuring the prompt and complete removal of recalled products from physical and online retail outlets, and conducting distribution and communication checks to confirm that recall measures are effectively implemented across the supply chain.

Moreover, the agency understands the concerns of parents and caregivers and encourages them to continue closely caring for and observing the well-being of their infants and young children.
