Alas Pilipinas playmaker Owa Retamar signs with Visakha FC in Cambodia

Alas Pilipinas Men playmaker Owa Retamar is set to begin a new chapter overseas after signing with Cambodian club Visakha FC for the Sar Kheng Cup, scheduled from Feb. 7 to March 1.

Retamar left for Cambodia after his professional team, Cignal HD Spikers, announced its decision to take a leave of absence from the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.

The move opened the door for the national team standout to explore opportunities abroad.

The 27-year-old setter brings an extensive resume to Visakha, anchored by his consistent performances for the Philippine national team.

Retamar played a key role in the country’s historic silver medal finish at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and was part of the Alas Pilipinas squad that secured a bronze medal at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

Retamar also made waves on the global stage after finishing as the fourth-best setter in the pool stage of the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, marking one of the highest international rankings achieved by a Filipino volleyball player.

Before turning professional, Retamar established himself as one of the most decorated setters in the collegiate ranks, where he steered National University to three consecutive UAAP championships and earned multiple Finals MVP and Best Setter honors before graduating in 2024.

At the club level, Retamar suited up for Cignal in the Spikers’ Turf, helping the HD Spikers capture the 2025 Open Conference title.

His stint with Visakha marks another milestone for Philippine volleyball as Retamar joins a growing list of Filipino athletes testing their mettle in international competitions.
