UP retains UAAP streetdance crown with Filipino superheroes-themed performance

UP Streetdance Club (UPSDC) repeated mastery in the UAAP Season 88 Streetdance Competition, clinching back-to-back collegiate titles with a comic-inspired showing at the Blue Eagle Gym, May 3.

Adding feathers to their cap, UPSDC secured its fifth overall street dance crown to overtake the De La Salle University Dance Company as the most decorated dance crew on the collegiate scene.

In front of a strong 4,515 attendance, the Diliman-based squad earned a total of 93.33 points, powered by impressive scores in artistry (46.90) and execution (46.70), in front of 4,515 spectators.

UPSDC brought to life beloved Filipino characters such as Gagambino, Lastikman, Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah, and Captain Barbell, culminating in a powerful Darna-inspired finale through creative storytelling and seamless choreography.

According to team captain Angelo Bocobo, the team’s journey was not without challenges, especially after finishing second in the College Division of the World of Dance Philippines qualifiers last month.

“Doon namin narealize na minsan kailangan mo ring matalo para mas maintindihan kung paano manalo ulit,” Bocobo shared.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas Prime finished close behind with 92.17 points, showcasing a vibrant routine inspired by Chinese culture.

La Salle Dance Company–Street placed third with 90.33 points, delivering a romantic-themed performance set to “Araw-Araw” by Ben&Ben.
