UP ALCHEMES welcomes Chemical Engineering FSTs through Fresh Day and annual Blockhandling program

The University of the Philippines Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students, Inc. (UP ALCHEMES) opens its doors once again to the newest members of the UP Diliman Chemical Engineering community through its annual Blockhandling program for freshies, shiftees, and transferees (FSTs)!

Notably, the heart of Blockhandling is the UP ALCHEMES’s Fresh Day, to be held on August 8 at IE/ME Building, UP Diliman. This in-person event serves as one of the most anticipated activities, as it brings together the FSTs for a day of fun games and meaningful conversations. In addition to welcoming the FSTs, Fresh Day seeks to help the FSTs build connections with their batchmates and upperclassmen before the academic year begins.

This initiative provides opportunities for FSTs to meet their fellow batchmates and become familiar with the people and resources that will support them throughout their stay in UP Diliman. This event was carefully designed to help FSTs adjust to college life through informative content and interactive activities. 

Blockhandling kick-started its mission through the New First Year Orientation (NFYO), held last July 4. The orientation gave the FSTs a glimpse into what to expect as they begin their journey as engineering students. This was followed by the Mixer Night last July 11, wherein FSTs interacted and became more acquainted with each other.

In line with UP ALCHEMES continues to release several promotional and informational publications across its social media platforms. From TikTok to Facebook, the creative content hopes to set up excitement for the events ahead, such as the release of the official 2026 FST Handbook which contains helpful information about the Chemical Engineering program, subjects, materials, and student life! More examples are the weekly Freshie Tips, a Books and Calculator Sale, a raffle, and of course, Blockwars, an exciting block-based competition that will encourage teamwork, camaraderie, and friendly rivalry among the FSTs.

Through its annual Blockhandling Program, UP ALCHEMES continues its commitment to guiding and supporting the newest members of the Chemical Engineering community. With Fresh Day, Mixer Night, Blockwars, weekly tips, online promotions, and other initiatives, UP ALCHEMES hopes to provide every FST with a welcoming beginning and remind them that they do not have to navigate their Chemical Engineering journey alone.
