Broadcaster Adrian “Golden Boy” Loterte died October 12 after being shot inside an establishment in Barangay San Roque, Daraga, Albay.

Loterte, an anchor of RBN News Television’s online program Rabas Cun Rabas, was shot by two unidentified gunmen at around 4:10 p.m. in Purok 4, according to initial reports.

He was rushed to Daraga Doctors Hospital but later died from his injuries.

The Albay Police Provincial Office formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to investigate the killing and identify those responsible.

Authorities are pursuing leads to establish the identities of the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack. Investigators have yet to publicly establish whether the incident was connected to Loterte’s work as a media personality.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) condemned the killing and directed local police units to pursue all investigative leads, preserve evidence and bring those responsible to justice.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of media workers and the protection of press freedom in the country.

As of yesterday, October 13, authorities had yet to publicly establish the motive behind the killing.
