Eala sweeps Parry, advances to R16 at Ningbo Open

After consecutive early exits in SIngapore and Wuhan, Alex Eala broke her dry spell in the Asian swing with a dominant first-round victory at Ningbo.

World No. 20 superstar Alex Eala blanked Frenchwoman Diane Parry, 6–3, 6–1, to march into the second round of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open at the Ningbo Yinzhou Tennis Center, on October 19.

Eala, who had lost in three separate Asian tournaments, regained her winning form after a grueling schedule that tested the 21-year-old’s consistency.

“It really makes my job very fun even in the difficult moments,” Eala said.

With her serve locked and loaded, the lefty-Filipina netter rallied for seven straight games as she controlled the pace of her service.

The Rafa Nadal alumna continued to dictate the pace with composed groundstrokes and sharp execution, leading to the 24-year-old Frenchwoman to commit errors.

After the match, Eala awaits her second-round opponent, either world No. 13 Diana Shnaider or Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, as she continues her campaign for another WTA 500 title.
