Clearskiiin rallies past 3B in Spiker’s Turf Invitational debut

Clearskiiin UV Smashers bounced back from an opening-set loss to defeat 3B Event Masters, 21–25, 25–15, 25–22, 25–16, in the preliminary rounds of the 2026 Spiker’s Turf Invitational Conference at Ynares Center in Antipolo on Thursday, Oct. 15.

As Spiker’s Turf and the PVL All-Filipino Cup celebrate a decade of volleyball in the Philippines with a new schedule promoting continuous action, both teams seek their first preliminary-round victory to nab a spot in the winners’ bracket.

3B set early tempo, attacking the corners before claiming the first set behind the efforts of JRU standout Harry Ocay.

The UV Smashers retaliated in the second frame, with Jester Noel Bornel leading the defense with crucial kill blocks to disrupt Event Masters’ offensive rhythm 10–5 before capitalizing on its orchestrated offense and spikes to knot the set score at 1-all.

With the match tied at one set apiece, Ruvince Abarot poured seven points in the third canto behind quick attacks to hand his squad a comfortable 22–16 cushion before eventually moving one set away from victory.

Banking on their defense, Bornel and the UV Smashers’ defensive pressure allowed them to mount a 19–10 advantage before Angela Gayud uncorked consecutive spikes to seal Clearskiiin’s first victory in the conference.

Abrot was named the game’s Most Valuable Player with 13 points and 10 receptions, while Bornel and Jay Rack De La Noche chipped in 12 points apiece to bolster the UV Smashers’ offense.

Riding the momentum of their opening win, the UV Smashers Clearskiiins are set to face AEP Cabstars, while 3B Event Masters will take on AFB on October 21 at the Filoil Ecooil Centre.
