The Quezon City Government advised residents to stay indoors and wear masks when going outside after air quality in some parts of the city reached “Very Unhealthy” and “Acutely Unhealthy” levels on April 11.
In a Facebook post, the Quezon City Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department reported that the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) readings as of 8:45 p.m. showed that 13 areas were at ‘Very Unhealthy level’, while three were at ‘Acutely Unhealthy level.’
“QCitizens, dahil sa patuloy na pagdami ng mga lugar sa lungsod na nasa ‘Unhealthy’ at ‘Acutely Unhealthy’ na antas ng air quality, pinapayuhan ang lahat na manatili muna sa loob ng bahay kung maaari. Magsuot naman ng face mask kung kinakailangang lumabas,” the post read.
Under the Unhealthy level, residents are advised to avoid going outside, limit the use of vehicles, avoid areas with heavy traffic, and stay home and rest, especially those with heart or respiratory diseases.
For areas under the Acutely Unhealthy level, residents are urged to refrain from going outside, particularly those with health conditions, while limiting vehicle use and reducing industrial activities.
Those experiencing health concerns such as difficulty breathing, asthma, and other related symptoms may contact the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) at (02) 8929-8038.
Residents may also call QC Helpline 122 for other immediate actions.
In a similar incident, the Mandaluyong City Government also released advisories regarding the same issue.
In a facebook post of Mandaluyong City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department, the air quality was recorded at Very Unhealthy level at around 7 p.m.
By around 9:30 p.m., it had improved to the Fair air quality category.
Even after air quality improved, the department still advised sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart conditions, to wear face masks outdoors and limit strenuous activities as a precaution.
