The Philippines delivered a breakthrough performance in the 14th ASEAN School Games (ASG) after vaulting from sixth place last year to a strong fourth-place finish, powered by an impressive 11 gold medals and a total of 43 podium finishes, Nov. 20–28.
The 2025 campaign marked a massive improvement from the 13th ASG in 2024, where the country secured only 30 medals with 2 golds, 8 silvers, and 20 bronzes.
This year, Filipino student-athletes nearly quadrupled their gold output, finishing with 11 golds, 10 silvers, and 22 bronzes, signaling a promising rise in youth sports development.
Athletics served as the anchor of the delegation, hauling nine gold medals and producing standout performances from Efosa John Paul Aguinaldo (boys’ long jump), Ivan Cabanda (boys’ 400m hurdles), Anthony Cariaso (boys’ 800m and 1500m), Jhul Ian Cañalita (boys’ 3000m), Jeralyn Rodriguez (girls’ 400m), Ma. Emely Balunan (girls’ 800m), and Francene Jhobie Rosario (girls’ 200m).
Team sports also added to the golden surge, with both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams ruling their respective divisions to secure two more top-of-the-podium finishes.
The country’s final tally being 11 golds, 10 silvers, and 22 bronzes not only exceeded expectations but also showcased the depth, discipline, and rising competitiveness of Filipino student-athletes against the region’s best.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Philippines looks to ride this resurgence into future regional and international youth tournaments, marking the 2025 ASG as a defining chapter in its growing sports program.
