 At the end of each year, Spotify shares a small infographic called the Spotify Wrapped that feels like one of those high school quizzes saying, “Here’s who you are, according to your ears.” But for Filipinos in 2025, this quirky recap may serve more than bragging rights. It reflects cultural identity and shows the type of Filipino you are, where you come from, and how you want to feel. Welcome to the Age of the Spotify Persona.  

“Sa Islang Pantropiko”

Some Pinoy listeners pack their Wrapped with SB19’s beats and BINI’s girl-group glory. These P-Pop Patriots wear their national pride on their sleeves. Think about how fulfilling it would be hearing your mother tongue on a billboard hot 100 together with a jam-packed Philippine Arena  concert crowd, and then coming home to see Tiktok edits of Filipino artists online. Globally-aimed acts like SB19 paved the way: Spotify notes the love for SB19 is “representative of a growing appreciation and pride for local Filipino music”. 

Today even globally acclaimed pop groups boast Filipino stars and fans count them as national treasures. Sophia Laforteza’s story was heralded as “the Filipino dream realized,” since her success on KATSEYE’s debut felt like a win for the whole nation. Gehlee and Elisia (of UNIS) likewise “boldly represent the Philippines,” waving the Filipino flag in the K-pop stage. 

It’s no accident: the patriot’s Wrapped playlists double as a flex of local culture. As Spotify SEA executive Gustav Back put it, “Pinoy music continues to break into new spaces like never before”. Of course, Filipino music and romance go hand-in-hand. Our Romantics live for the kilig factor of local love songs. Their Wrapped is loaded with Rob Deniel’s guitar ballads and Maki’s colorful chronicles of love.

These listeners have a knack for misty-eyed ballads about lost love. Wrapped sees them rewinding December Avenue’s Huling Sandali on loop or crooning along to Kitchie Nadal’s Huwag na Huwag Mong Sasabihin at midnight. They embrace the melancholy side, just like Pinoy music did in the 2000s: songs that turned heartbreak and yearning into communal catharsis.

And then there’s the algorithmic scramble. Some fans have playlists that read like a TikTok FYP. These TikTok Scroll Zombies aren’t genre purists – their taste is dictated by viral 15-second hooks so don’t be surprised if you see Taylor Swift’s Opalite or Kid Cudi’s Maui Wowie. 

Their Wrapped is a medley of meme-songs and snack-worthy soundbites: a sped-up pop track because “it went viral,” a novo Latino beat trending on Reels, and maybe that one mariachi cover making the rounds. As one writer put it, Filipinos set TikTok ablaze with the “Opalite” dance trend, blending global Swiftie fandom with local flair. In other words, their playlists mirror TikTok culture: chaotic, catchy, and always changing. Scroll Zombies don’t care if their favorites chart looks incoherent; they just want the dopamine high.

Global Pop Divas Club

Finally, no Pinoy Wrapped is complete without our global divas. These listeners mix local pride with world charts. Their top songs might include Taylor Swift’s new album or Sabrina Carpenter’s summer anthem. And how could we forget Olivia Rodrigo, whose Sad Girl Chronicles resonate even under Manila heat? These Wrapped charts might look exactly like any global Top 5 sprinkled with Filipino tastes; whether it be a Kapamilya show tune collab or an OPM cameo. In short, Global Pop Girlies wear their internet badges but they pair it with a wink of the Pinoy identity.
