Maa Flyover over 90% complete; targets March opening – DPWH Davao

Davao City’s Maa-Magtuod Flyover is nearing completion, with 90% already finished, and is scheduled to open this March after multiple delays, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways – Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) 

Road Right-of-Ways and unsettled funding were among the causes of delays that pushed the project completion date, raising concerns among drivers. 

Based on the DPWH’s Facebook post, the project will help ease traffic congestion at the Maa-Diversion Road junction, one of the city’s primary highways. 

“Dako kini og matabang sa pagsulbad sa problema sa trapiko sa siyudad (It would greatly help in solving the traffic problem in the city),” the agency said.

Additionally, the flyover is expected to control the flow of vehicles in both directions, in line with the opening of Bucana Bridge and Roxas exits, which are among the roads that experience heavy traffic during rush hour. 

The Maa-Magtuod Flyover project was initiated by DPWH in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Davao City and began in 2021.

Since then, the project has become a hotspot for vehicular accidents due to a lack of visibility and lighting at night. 

Moreover, there were claims that the delay was due to the Marcos-Duterte conflict, which DPWH ultimately denied.
