UPM to offer RadTech program amid national demand

In response to the shortage of radiologic technologists in the country, the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) will be offering a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology program starting August 2026.

The implementation of the said program aims to solve the country’s 19,000 deficits in radiologic technologists, having only 19,732 practicing professionals across the country, and only five public institutions offering the degree.

The newly established program was pioneered by a committee headed by Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Bernadette Heizel Manapat-Reyes and UP College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) Dean Esmerita Rotor.

Its curriculum will be based on the curriculum of leading Thai institutions like Chulalongkorn University, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, and Mahidol University, with the support of the Commission on Higher Education’s Technical Panel for Radiologic Technology Education.

“The program allows the university to offer students a direct route into a high-demand health profession,” UP President Angelo Jimenez said.

Future students of the said program will be taken from the pool of UP College Admissions Test (UPCAT) 2026 qualifiers under the category Degree Programs with Available Slots of UPM.

Qualifiers are required to have a University Predicted Grade of at least 2.58 to be eligible for admission.

RadTech will be under the CAMP, as approved by the UP Board of Regents on April 30.
