65 dead, 36 missing, thousands displaced in M7.8 Mindanao quake

Families affected due to the 7.8 earthquake that struck Maasim, Saranggani and other parts of Mindanao climbed up to 176,000, as of June 15.

As of posting, 65 deaths were reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

1,447 individuals were also injured and 36 persons are still currently missing.

Thousands of displaced residents remain in evacuation centers and temporary shelters as authorities continue relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts in the affected area

The earthquake also led to widespread ravage across parts of Mindanao, affecting 57,252 houses.

A total of 10,023 houses were completely wrecked across Sarangani, General Santos City, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, and other affected areas.

Out of 135 road sections and 41 bridges affected, 26 roads and 13 bridges of these are impassable due to the damage caused by the earthquake.

39 municipalities and cities still face power interruptions, meanwhile water supplies remain affected in 16 localities.

The 7.8 earthquake struck Maasim, Sarangani on June 8, 7:37 AM, which triggered a tsunami on the same day.
