Alas blanks Myanmar to finish fifth in SEA V.Cup

Alas Pilipinas Men closed their campaign on a winning note as they swept Myanmar via a 25–21, 28–26, 25–22 whitewash to emerge as the fifth placers in the SEA V.Cup held at Candon City Arena, Ilocos Sur, July 18.

The Nationals were quickly overwhelmed by the opposition in the opening period as they fell behind a six-point hole on 11–17, yet they surged back on the latter stages of the match with a staggering 14–4 blitzkrieg to draw first blood in a rapid 26-minute time.

Both squads traded blows in the second set, as neither team could score twice in a row in crunch time, yet it was Lloyd Josefat who secured the second frame via a block to install a 2–0 set advantage.

From here on, the Philippines took it up a notch and never looked back as they quickly wrapped up the match in 76 minutes and ended their Leg 1 run with a win on their belt.

Louie Ramirez led the host nation with 14 points on 11 attacks and three blocks, while Joshua Magalaman continued his hot streak with 12 points of his own.

Despite being assembled only two months ago, Alas ended its campaign with a win while Myanmar concluded its Leg 1 run winless.

Attempting to bounce back, the next leg of the annual meet is scheduled on July 22-26, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
