SSL National Invitationals 2025: Lady Blazers edge Knights in 5; Lady Tamaraws sweep Brahmans

The College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers and Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws closed the second day of the Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals 2025 Batangas leg with convincing victories, as Benilde outlasted the Letran Lady Knights and FEU dominated the University of Batangas Lady Brahmans at the UB Millennium Gym, August 30.

To start the day, the Lady Blazers endured a fourth-set stumble before clinching a grueling five-set thriller against Letran, 27-29, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 15-8.

After dropping the opening set, CSB regained its rhythm in the next two frames, relying on quicker ball distribution and sharper floor defense to take a 2-1 edge.

But the Lady Knights refused to fold.

Letran rallied late in the fourth set to steal a narrow 25-23 win and force a decider.

Benilde then turned to timely scoring in the fifth, with Clydel Catarig delivering clutch hits and steady serving that snapped Letran’s momentum.

Catarig’s crosscourt strike and a service ace highlighted a 5-0 closing run that sealed the win for the Lady Blazers.

Meanwhile, the FEU Lady Tamaraws stood victorious over the host team UB Lady Brahmans with a sweep, 25-14, 25-7, 25-19.

Lovely Lopez led the charge for FEU with 9 points, while the Tamaraws’ relentless serving and net defense overwhelmed UB in the first two sets.

The Lady Brahmans threatened late in the third, trimming the deficit to two, but FEU responded with a steady 6-2 run to finish the match.

With the victories, CSB and FEU share the top spot in the Luzon leg standings at 2-0, inching closer to berths in the next round of the national invitational tournament.
