Alas Pilipinas swept by Tunisia in men’s world championship debut

Alas Pilipinas dropped its first-ever FIVB Men’s World Championship match, falling to Tunisia in straight sets 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 in preliminary play at the Mall of Asia Arena, September 12.

Despite the historic home setting, the hosts struggled to find rhythm early, allowing Tunisia to dictate the pace.

The Tunisians quickly seized control of the first two sets, capitalizing on Philippine errors and maintaining a steady attack to build a commanding lead.

The Filipinos fought back in the third set, with captain Bryan Bagunas sparking a late rally that pulled the score even at 21. But Tunisia held firm down the stretch to complete the sweep.

Tunisia’s Oussama Ben Romdhane directed the offense with 17 points, including 15 kills. Bagunas finished with 23 points, while hitter Marck Espejo added nine.

After the loss, the Philippines will try to rebound against Egypt, while Tunisia faces Iran in its next Pool A match Sept. 16.
