Another podium finish seemed too usual for the Cebuano cubing phenom, Leo Borromeo, who decided to mark history by posting the fourth continental record of his career in the recently concluded Makati
Speedcubing Open IV 2025, at SM Makati, September 7.

Borromeo, who had won the last seven 4x4x4 speedcubing events he entered, outpaced 70 competitors nationwide and recorded a single 16.52-second solve to set a new Asian record for the 4x4x4 cube.

Meanwhile, young standout Brenton Angelo Lo Wong drew attention after claiming multiple podium finishes. He topped the classic 3x3x3 cube with a 6.03-second average during the QC Speedcubing Open 2025 on September 6 at Robinsons Magnolia.

Borromeo, the record setter

Borromeo, the two-time 4x4x4 Philippine cubing champion, proved true to his title after averaging 22.44 seconds in the finals, enough to bag first place for the said cube.

He also bested the 4x4x4 cube first player of the QC speedcubing open, Inigo Miguel B. Palisoc, who finished with a 26.79-second average, earning him the second spot.

Meanwhile, Wong clinched third, ticking 28.91 seconds on the clock, beating the Singaporean bet Daryl Tan Hong An by just a second, he missed the podium finish after logging in a 29.97 average.

Flexing versatility, Borromeo was also presented as the first placer for the 3x3x3 cube and the 3x3x3 one-handed portion.

WONG-der kid

Triumphing in the 3x3x3 cube Philippine championship last year, Wong showcased his championship pedigree after clocking in a 6.03 average to earn him first place.

Securing the second place was the junior cuber Ethan Gabriel R. Lao, punching in 7.44 seconds. Dylan Yousef O. Valenzuela then trailed behind with a 7.60-second finish.

Fresh off a strong performance, Wong then proceeded to banner the 2x2x2 cubing, flashing a swift 1.84 second average and an impressive 1.29 seconds best– being the only cuber to finish within a second.

Genesis Vertudez improved his average this time around, igniting a 2.17-second finish—besting his near 3-second performance in the Cavite Speedcubing Open 2025 to finish second
