Leptospirosis now an epidemic in Manila

As of 3:12 PM on September 7, 2026, the City Government of Manila has now considered the rise of leptospirosis cases in the city to grant the disease epidemic status. 

According to the Manila Public Information Office:

-Leptospirosis cases are increasing by 3.48% this week.

-Leptospirosis cases have increased by 1.27% this week.

The harrowing rise has led to several hospitals reaching full capacity, including:

-Ospital Ng Maynila 

-Sta. Ana General Hospital

-Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has spearheaded an initiative to directly distribute doxycycline to all Manila residents affected by the flooding. Domagoso expects this initiative to strengthen Manila’s leptospirosis awareness campaign.
