The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that the launch of student Beep Cards will push through on September 20, after its original September 15 rollout was postponed due to system recalibration.

In a statement released on September 12, the DOTr decided to prolong the launch to ensure that there will be no problems in applying for their Beep cards.

The decision came after the agency did its initial assessment prior to the launch of the student cards.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we assure everyone that we are working hard to resolve these system issues within the month,” the DOTr said.

Not so long after, acting DOTr Secretary Giovannni Lopez announced on September 13, the launch of the discounted student Beep card would push through on September 20.

Lopez stated that the agency had found an immediate solution to address the concerns with its system, prompting the setting of the new launch date.

“Inutusan ko po ang team natin na tapusin agad ang mga problema sa system dahil alam kong matagal na itong inaabangan ng mga estudyanteng pasahero. Kung kailangang hindi matulog, hindi kami matutulog para ma-launch na natin agad ito,” said Lopez.

“If it means staying awake, we won’t sleep so we can launch this as soon as possible,” he added, highlighting their commitment to fixing the foreseeable issues.

Starting September 20, on-the-spot printing will be offered for student beep cards as well as the white beep cards for senior citizens.

Lopez added that IDs only need to be presented at any Metro Rail Transit Line 3 or Light Rail Transit Line 1 and 2 station.

The student Beep Cards have a 1-year availability, which can be renewed or reactivated every school year.
