Akari wins 5th straight; Farm Fresh downs short-handed Creamline in PVL AFC

Akari overcame a slow start and leaned on composure to defeat Galeries Tower, 25–23, 25–23, 14–25, 26–24, for its fifth consecutive win.

Though the Chargers were able to fend off the iron-willed Highrisers in the first two frames, the black-clad volleybelles seized control in the third frame behind Aiza Pontillas’ assail fueling Galeries Tower’s offensive arsenal.

Galeries Tower erased a seven-point deficit in the fourth set to force a tight finish, but a service error by Erika Raagas at match point allowed Akari to regain control.

Eli Soyud slammed the brakes on the opposition after unfurling her wings and firing the killer crosscourt hit to seal the deal.

After two nerve-wracking match points in the payoff period at 24-all, Raagas committed a service error after her personal ace kept Galeries Tower alive.

Akari relied on its all-around offensive output with Ced Domingo, Fifi Sharma, and Soyud combining for 39 markers, bolstering its chances for a playoff berth after moving to a 5–3 win-loss standing after a 0–3 start.

Meanwhile, Farm Fresh strengthened its playoff bid with a 25–16, 25–22, 18–25, 25–23 win over Creamline.

Creamline, without their main gunners Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons, remained at striking distance throughout regulation but was not able to snag the much-needed triumph after the duo of Royse Tubino and Trisha Tubu carving the Foxies’ path towards the winning column.

After an intense back-and-forth throughout the match, Tubu fired two consecutive hits in crunch time to knot the score at a 22–21 gap.

Two Tubino miscues gave Creamline a 23–22 edge, but immediately redeemed herself after raining down the next two markers to wrap up the game.

Tubu went the extra mile for Farm Fresh with a 22-point outing to boost their offensive output, enabling them to remain at the fourth seed with a 4–4 win-loss standing.

Farm Fresh and Akari will lock horns for a crucial matchup on March 21, with Creamline and Galeries Tower attempting to bounce back against their respective opponents—Capital1 Solar Spikers and Cignal Super Spikers—on the same day.
