Carlo Biado bowed out in the round of 32 of the Peri 9-Ball Open after falling to Spain’s Francisco Sánchez Ruiz, while compatriots Edward Koyongian and Aivahn Matuto advanced to the round of 16, only to lose to their respective opponents at the Peri Pool Arena on Oct. 5.
Biado succumbed, 4-9, to Ruiz, as Koyongian and Matuto likewise absorbed tough defeats, 8-9 and 2-9, respectively, in their round of 16 matchups.
Biado started strong, showing flashes of his world-class form before eventually yielding to Ruiz’s accuracy and composure on the table.
After dropping the opening four racks, the Filipino cue artist managed to claim two straight to narrow the gap, 2-4.
However, Ruiz countered with steady shot-making to restore control and ultimately seal the match.
Meanwhile, Koyongian endured a heart-stopping encounter against American cueist Skyler Woodward but fell just short, 8-9, after a back-and-forth exchange that tested both players’ nerves.
Matuto, on the other hand, struggled to find his rhythm against Taiwan’s Ko Pin-Yi and suffered a 2-9 defeat in their last-16 duel, ending his tournament run.
While their run at this tournament seemed to be over, Biado is expected to participate in the forthcoming 2025 Hanoi Open Pool Championship on Oct. 7-12.
