CAPTAIN CLUTCH: Brunson’s game-winning charity anchor Knicks past Spurs for 2–0 NBA Finals lead

Staying true to his clutch reputation, Jalen Brunson rose just in time to drill a go-ahead freebie and lift the New York Knicks past hosts San Antonio Spurs, 105–104, to take Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center, June 6.

Victor Wembanyama fouled Brunson after committing a turnover as the pass bounced off Stephon Castle’s back, where the Knicks star guard calmly sank the first free throw to maintain their clean finals run.

The Villanova product also chipped in 20 points as Karl-Anthony Towns marshalled the Mike Brown-mentored crew with his 21-point 13-rebound double-double to hang onto the ropes late in the payoff period.

Boosted by the win, New York also extended their winning streak to 13 games that has been posted since April and are now two wins away from bagging their first NBA championship since 1973.

After trailing early behind by 12, the blue-and-orange ballers staged a scoring spree in the paint and beyond the arc, converting off treys and layups en route to a 56-52 lead at halftime.

Brunson then rode the berserk second half, flashing an 8–2 barrage underscored by a timely triple that sent New York into the final frame with a nine-point cushion.

Refusing to yield without a fightback, Spurs retaliated with a 14–0 blitz behind Wembanyama’s inner presence, including a trifecta that stole a 104–102 lead, only to lose steam in their tanks in the closing seconds.

Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox bannered San Antonio with 29 and 20 markers, respectively.

Both camps will face each other once again for Game 3 on June 9, as the series shifts to New York.
