FALSE: Guanzon claims special session intended to block revelations on flood control scandal

A Facebook post on June 17 by the page “Ang Balita Ngayon” quotes Atty. Rowena Guanzon, former Commission on Elections commissioner, said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. commanded the Senate to conduct a special session to “change the Senate President and prevent the truth of the flood control scandal from coming out.”

CLAIM: 

The post claimed that Guanzon posted a statement describing the special session held last June 17 as a tool to change the Senate President and silence the truth of the flood control scandal.

CONCLUSION: 

Atty. Guanzon did not post any reactions or statements that describe the special session as a strategic tool used for the flood control scandal. 

THE FACTS:

• No post from Guanzon’s social media platforms stated the quote. There are no news websites that also support this.
• The special session held last June 17 was indeed called in by President Marcos.
• The said session effectively elected Sen. Win Gatchalian as the Senate President. But this change is to tackle priority legislation and not to silence the truth of the flood control scandal.
• The statement is likely fabricated.
