FALSE: PBBM claims he won the 2022 presidential race due to Marcos heritage, not Duterte support

A Facebook post that gains engagement among online users cites a statement allegedly made by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. regarding his success in the 2022 presidential elections.

CLAIM:

The post highlighted that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. refuted statements from netizens saying he only won the election by being tied to the Dutertes. He allegedly underscored that he was voted for because Filipinos liked him and he was part of the Marcos family.

RATING: FALSE

CONCLUSION:

There are no posts from trusted media sources tied to his press conferences and other appearances showing that he indeed spoke up about this, marking it as disinformation. Adding on, there is no additional information stated in the post regarding the whereabouts of Marcos in saying this.

THE FACTS:

  • The photo of Marcos used in the post was taken from Inquirer, as the picture’s original setting was a media interview in 2023 regarding his position as the Department of Agriculture (DA) head.
  • While Marcos has not provided any reply to these statements, there remains Pulong Duterte’s statement that Marcos owes his 2022 win to now-Vice President Sara Duterte, his partner in the UniTeam coalition. According to him, he would not have won by the margin that he had without her.
  • The Malacanang Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro replied to this, emphasizing that because of their unity, one cannot say that the wave of votes was only because of either Marcos Jr. or Duterte.

THE BOTTOMLINE:

The news remains purely made up, leading the public to believe and respond to the unverified statements. Due to the ongoing political feuds, different factions have started resorting to making up statements coming from different sides.
