Isko Moreno to turn old hospital building into health sciences hub

The old Ospital ng Maynila building is going to be converted into a new Academic Building for Health Sciences of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) in two years, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso vowed on August 19. 

During the PLM Board of Regents meeting, Domagoso committed to materializing this proposal, addressing the expansion of healthcare opportunities and demand of the university’ capacities for more production of health professionals.  

“We will continue producing more doctors, we will continue helping in nation-building… the growth of PLM in production of quality students will be stunted in the absence of space,” he said.

The old building initially suggested redesigning only its structure yet later needed for retrofitting to build house classrooms, laboratories, and technical equipment. 

“Kailangan pala i-retrofit at i-redesign. We wanted to put laboratories, [and] technical equipment that will be needed by our students,” he added. 

For the Manila mayor, the proposed health sciences building is more than an establishment, stressing their fulfillment to finish in two years. 

“This is not just about the building, it’s about the school… we want to finish it in the next two years,” he emphasized.

He expressed his gratitude to the PLM Board of Regents as well as the engineers and architects for ‘sharing ideas and conceptualizing the said building’.
