Kristensen takes tourney scoring lead after four-goal masterclass vs. Timor-Leste in AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers

Bjorn Kristensen seized the tournament scoring lead with a sensational four-goal performance as the Philippines cruised past Timor-Leste, 4-1, during the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round at the Territory Rugby League Stadium, Oct. 9.

Powering the Azkals to the top of Group A with seven points and a +6 goal difference, the 23-year-old KFUM Oslo striker now has seven goals in the competition, with three matches still to play.

Kristensen opened the scoring in the 15th minute, slotting home a rebound after Sandro Reyes’ attempt was blocked by Timor-Leste goalkeeper Georgino Jose Da Silva. 

Sixteen minutes later, he doubled the lead with a blistering solo run from midfield before calmly finishing past the keeper.

Timor-Leste briefly threatened a comeback when captain Freitas Gali scored in the 47th minute, but Kristensen quickly restored the two-goal cushion just two minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball inside the box.

He completed his four-goal haul in the 56th minute off a pinpoint long pass from Reyes, coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to seal the win.

Randy Schneider nearly added a fifth for the Philippines before Kristensen made way for Sebastian Rasmussen in the 62nd minute. 

The Azkals saw out the remaining minutes comfortably to secure their second win of the campaign.

The Philippines will face Timor-Leste again on Oct. 14, at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
